Building a united global front for journalists worldwide
Journalism is under increasing pressure from authoritarian regimes, war zones, misinformation, and corporate media control. IUJ aims to *build a united global front* to protect journalists from repression and support them in times of crisis.
Many regions lack strong institutions to protect press freedom. IUJ may seek to *fill the gaps*, particularly in countries where local journalist unions are weak or censored.
Today’s journalism faces *digital surveillance*, online harassment, fake news, and AI-generated misinformation. IUJ can focus on *modern threats to journalism* that older institutions may be slower to address.
Freelancers, women journalists, and those from the Global South are often underrepresented. IUJ might prioritize giving *equal voice* to journalists from developing countries or conflict zones.
Journalists increasingly face lawsuits, arrests, or violence. IUJ could offer emergency aid, legal defense funds, or relocation support.
Counter disinformation and unethical media practices. Train and support journalists to maintain *credibility and integrity* in their work.
